Misibis Bay Introduces Colorful and Upbeat Pacific View Wing

My first visit to the gorgeous waters of Misibis Bay was back in 2015 when I went on a three-night luxury vacation inside this sprawling seaside resort in Legazpi. It seems so long ago and I was just starting my love for travel back then. More than three years after and dozens of other exciting local and international destinations later, I’m back at Misibis Bay to experience the newest addition to its cluster of accommodations – the Pacific View Wing.

Misibis Bay is located in Cagraray Island in Albay province, which is accessible via a 45-minute plane ride from Manila to Legazpi City and a one hour land transfer to the resort using their private air-conditioned van. This is pre-arranged before the trip so our driver was already waiting for us at the Legazpi airport when we arrived. We all enjoyed the leisurely scenic drive around Mayon Volcano to the resort which turned out to be one of the best and most exhilarating vacations I have ever had in the Philippines.

Our journey started at their new spacious lobby and reception area which is decked in the elegant and vibrant hues of the bay. I remember that this used to be the casino building before but it was already closed the last time I visited. The high ceiling and bright lights are an improvement from the former reception hall which now serves as a souvenir shop.

Resort guests are given welcome drinks while completing the quick check-in procedures. The colorful vibe of the reception lobby is a fitting prelude to what was in store for our group who were invited to stay in their new Pacific View rooms.

Welcoming us at the resort was Ms. Grace Asjes, Operations Manager for Misibis Bay who made sure we got to experience all that the luxury resort had to offer. Misibis Bay Resort is managed by Enderun Hospitality Management, a hospitality management solutions provider that engages with local independent hotel and restaurant owners. Enderun is one of the fastest growing management groups in the country, now servicing 12 hotels between Manila, Boracay, and Davao.

Misibis Bay is a private five-hectare tropical hideaway built on a pristine stretch of beach along the southern tip of Cagraray island in Bacacay, Albay, which is part of the Bicol Region. The resort’s architecture and interiors display a quintessence of style that allows guests to completely wallow in delight at its 37 luxurious, Asian-inspired villas. These exquisite villas were my hideaway during my previous trip (Read: Misibis Bay, My Luxury Playground), but now they have added even more exciting accommodation options.

After a short shuttle ride around the property to acquaint us with the resort amenities and facilities, we were dropped off at their newest gem called the Pacific View Wing.

With a total of 53 garden view rooms, all with their own magnificent view of the beach and the cove, the Pacific View Wing promises a whole new level of relaxation with rates that are actually more affordable than the pool and beach villas. The new wing was officially launched last August 26, 2017 and features three different room categories: the Standard Pacific View, Deluxe Pacific View, and One Bedroom Premier Pacific View.

My room was the 39-square meter Standard Pacific View on the second floor which is as colorful as the vibrant waters of Misibis Bay. It comes with two huge twin beds that were so comfortable it was really difficult to get up once I plopped myself down on its smooth cotton linens and hypoallergenic pillows.

Aside from the bed, the big LED Smart TV in front was also another excuse to just stay inside my room. Fast complimentary wifi is also available throughout the property. Each room also has a small woven bag that comes in handy as a beach bag when you do decide to step outside and explore the resort.

I got more excited when I saw the freestanding bathtub just a few steps away from the bed. I can already imagine myself having a warm bubble bath that evening after a busy day of traveling. The curtains around the bathroom can be pulled open or closed, depending on the level of privacy you prefer to have with your roommate. The Pacific View rooms also have connecting room features so you can even have three or more units connected together.

For bigger families, the 99-square meter One Bedroom Pacific View should be a better option, especially as it comes with its own daybed and beach beds. The 55-inch and 40-inch LED TVs should be enough to make sure no one fights over the remote control. These bright, modern, and spacious Pacific View rooms are definitely all welcome, breezy additions to Misibis Bay.

But the best feature of the Pacific View rooms would be their fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean. Cagraray Island lies on the easternmost part of the Philippine archipelago so you have an unobstructed view of the ocean. It really feels so refreshing when I open my balcony doors and breathe the fresh ocean air.

You can visit the official Misibis Bay Resort website at www.misibisbay.com to know more about the ongoing promotions and rates for their Pacific View rooms. I found one all-inclusive package for only P19,888 that comes with a two-night stay in a Standard Pacific View for two, full board meals and drinks, a couples massage, unlimited sports activities, and free airport transfers. Now that is a great deal!

Guests checked in at the Pacific View Wing will also have access to a long list of outdoor and water sport activities, as well tours of the nearby towns and picturesque spots (for an added fee). Misibis Bay offers world-class facilities both for recreation and for relaxation.

You can swim leisurely at any of their three swimming pools – the Infinity Pool overlooking the beach, the Lagoon Pool near the villas, or the Kiddie Pool beside the Pacific View Wing. The gentle breeze coupled with this majestic view makes this such a luxurious and romantic destination.

I definitely remember this spot because this is where I stayed during my first visit. My 110-square meter One-Bedroom Premiere Villa on the second floor doesn’t just come with a separate living room and luxurious bathroom, it also has a private outdoor veranda with a spectacular view of the lagoon, complete with its own sunbeds and a jacuzzi. Check out my previous blog (Misibis Bay: My Luxury Playground) to see my villa and the other exquisite rooms of Misibis Bay.

If swimming at the beach is more to your liking, Misibis Bay’s exclusive 1-kilometer stretch of golden-sand beach is made even more unique with exotic shells and volcanic pebbles. The man-made breakwater makes the cove safe for swimming and for other water activities.

There are many picturesque areas around the resort so make sure to bring your best cameras and phones. I’m already planning where I can take my best poses the next day with these gorgeous backdrops.

With this scenery, even a leisurely stroll around the resort is enough to refresh and revive one’s spirit. This is how a resort vacation should be – to remove oneself from the hectic city life and to re-energize the body with the tranquil waters of Misibis Bay by your side.

It was already late afternoon when we arrived at the resort, so after a short rest inside our rooms, we were then treated to a private poolside dinner courtesy of Misibis Bay. Guests can request for special private dinners on the beach or by the pool which Misibis Bay will be happy to arrange (for an added fee). This would be a great way to impress your date.

Making the evening more special was one of their signature cocktails, the Cagraray Sunrise. This is their own version of a Tequila Sunrise made with cucumber and lemon.

Couples can opt for a more romantic setting by having their private dinners complete with a candelight setup. This is where we had our dinner on the second night.

Aside from the ala carte menu that is available from Spice Market, the resort’s all-day restauarant, they can also set up a private bar which can serve cocktails and other beverages. The very friendly and helpful staff of Misibis Bay will make sure it will be a dinner to remember.

Since Misibis Bay is managed by Enderun Hospitality, we were treated to some of the best local and regional dishes that Bicol has to offer. We started with the Nilasing na Hipon (P481) which has plump shrimp marinated in wine then deep fried and served with vinegar dip. The shrimp was so crunchy that there was no need to peel off the skin.

Misibis Bay is featuring the Pagkaon Bicolnon selection on their menu which highlights authentic Bikolano delicacies by Executive Chef Roel Legson. The Crispy Pork Tinutungan is a meaty twist to this traditional Bicol dish. Tender slices of crispy pork are marinated and cooked in burnt coconut milk with a little bit of heat from the chilis.

For a quick food tour around the Bicol region, the Bicol Bento Box (P801) let’s guests enjoy all of Bicol’s pride in one dish. This box comes with servings of Bicol Express, Tilmok, Adobo sa Asin, and Cocido. It was the third time that day I had a version of Bicol Express and each one was good, with their own levels of spiciness.

Seafood lovers can also order the Crab with Sotanghon or the Singaporean Chili Crab for a dose of international flavors.

For desserts, the Leche Flan Turon (P278) is a Misibis Bay specialty that has the sweet leche flan wrapped and deep fried then served with vanilla sauce. This is a whole new way of enjoying the classic leche flan, with a crunchy bite.

Now for those brave enough, the Sili Ice Cream (P241) would best describe the flavors of Bicol. This is the only place you can find ice cream that will both cool and burn your throat. This was a Level 3 Sili Ice Cream and it can even go as high as Level 5. Try it at your own risk!

After an eventful afternoon at Misibis Bay, it was time to head back to my cool Pacific View room and finally indulge in a warm and relaxing bubble bath. This was just our first day at the resort, and tomorrow promises to be even more adventurous as we get to explore the many fun activities and water sports that guests can enjoy during their stay.
